Congressman Becerra: Labor Day Weekend Kicks off with More Americans Back to Work Despite Republican Spectating

Date: Sept. 4, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement on the August employment report from the Department of Labor that showed an increase of 173,000 jobs:

"The best way to kick off the Labor Day weekend is with 173,000 more Americans celebrating their new job. On Labor Day, we honor the hard work of the millions of Americans who build and protect our nation.

"This month marks 66 straight months of job creation since the Great Recession jeopardized the financial security of families across the country. We've come a long way since then and we could achieve so much more if our Republican colleagues took their responsibility to govern in Congress seriously. With yet another government shutdown looming, Republicans must stop spectating. Better to work together with President Obama and Democrats to get things done."
